Hair extensions “A” Grading system is a standard used by companies to ensure factories and customers know how thick they want the ends of their hair extensions. It does not actually reflect the quality of each strand, but the proportion of each strand.
Hair extension thickness grading starts at Grade A! This is the lowest grade available (Very thin and spindly). 8A Grade also known as Double Drawn is the highest grade available. Note that the thicker the bundle of hair, the higher the quality. This is also referred to as single or double drawn, whereby single drawn would be grade A, double drawn would be the highest listed grade, typically AAAAA or higher.
A few years back, when there was less information available regarding the quality of hair extensions, grading systems were used to help entice customers to purchase what would seem like a higher quality of hair by listing as AAAAAAAA.
Nonetheless, due to the confusion caused by the system and a lack of understanding available, many now refer to the terms “single drawn” or “double drawn” instead, as this is a much clearer and more accurate way to describe hair.
Currently, there is not a “Universal Standard” for human hair extension grading. There is not a standard hair grades chart that you can pull up and it is accurate. Technically someone could call their hair extension 8A despite being smelly, crappy, tangling, non-Remy hair.

6A Hair
6A hair is a medium grade 100% virgin human hair with a thinner hair shaft. Note that with proper care, 6A hair bundles will last up to 6 months. This grade of hair can be dyed up to a medium brown colour and remain in good health. This hair is considered to be a good quality hair. For someone who won’t be using the hair extensions more than one time, 6a hair could be a grade of choice.
Pros & Cons of 6a Hair
Note that the most notable benefit of buying this hair would be the price. It comes with a decent quality to last a few months but after that, it most likely wouldn’t be usable. This hair will tend to tangle and shed more than higher grades. The quality also translates to the care taken to ensure that all of the hairs are close to the same length (double drawn), don’t have split ends or damage. The higher the grade of hair, the more time taken to make sure there are no imperfections.
7A Hair
7A grade hair is a high grade 100% virgin human Remy hair with a medium hair shaft and all cuticles intact and in the same direction. Note that with adequate and proper care, 7A hair bundles can last up to 1 year. It that can be dyed up to a medium blonde colour and remain in good health. This hair is considered to be good quality. This grade of hair is a great choice for someone looking for good quality, and longevity, at a very affordable price. This hair is beautiful and when kept in good health can be a great choice for regular hair extensions wearers.
Pros & Cons of 7A Hair
This grade of hair is reasonably priced. It is a good quality to last a year. The lustre and weight of this hair is very appealing. With proper construction, 7A hair shouldn’t have shedding or tangling.
Now you know the differences between 6A and 7A grade, note that to be competitive you have to focus on selling the best hair extensions possible for an affordable price. You don’t have to go too cheap as someone might not think your hair is of quality.
